We Hear the Colours

from The Synesthete by Joe Adhemar

/

lyrics

I struggled upon an ancient Hill
With the knowledge of a thousand men
And came upon a synesthete
Wearing sunglasses in the rain

He told me of the future
The uncertainty of it all
How we could soon be clinging
And we could not prevent our fall

With willing we seemed to follow
To the highest place to jump
And took the role of lemmings
On a diet of pretty things

And he said we had forgotten
To nurture our joyous soil
And burnt away the memory
To be junkies for the oil

And our children stare so blankly
Cos the trauma that they see
Embedded in these data clouds
That define how they should be

And the synesthete said I can only hear black and white

We feel alone in the monochrome
(We hear the colours)
