William Gray My first introduction to Joe's music that made me sit up and take notice. Favorite track: Fires.

redroz18 Lyrically and musically it’s hard to find a record like this with such an amazing mix of tracks a real quality street of an album. I’m a big Supertramp fan and that sound is in there in places. Off and on and A Broken Bond clearly stand out straight away. It’s Indie Kid at Heart that had me hitting repeat though. Quality songwriting and so easy to let it wash through the headphones. Favorite track: Indie Kid at Heart.

jonwes1971 There is something for everyone on this album. From the fast, frenetic sense of urgency that is ‘Off and On’, with lyrics that cut to the chase of current affairs; to the nostalgic, slow-build of ‘These Kids’, that unleashes itself in a crescendo towards the end of its 10 minute duration! Versatile musicianship that results in a truly eclectic body of work. Favorite track: These Kids.

oldindiekid A strong collection of songs from a brilliant songwriter. Always interesting lyrics, topics, sounds and production. My favourite album by the talented Joe Adhemar. Favorite track: A Broken Bond.

Mark G This is a mighty fine album by Joe. Obviously, the pun in the title hints at someone who is going to use their wit and charm through his lyrics.
Joe doesn't disappoint in this regard, from the opening salvo, through to the beauty of 'Dopamine Girl', and beyond 'Off and On'.
This album is a wonderfully strong piece of work, musically and technically, whilst pulling in Joe's known influences and rendering them anew. Favorite track: Off and On.

I’m told that I’m the good guy As I ditch the burner phone I watch the foreign actors I’m a man who has no home I’m a comfortable assassin And I don’t know where to start All the peril in my routine Makes a shadow in my heart And the devil that is lurking Behind my cold visage You don’t know how it burns me My assassin’s broken heart I will piss away my wisdom As the minutes turn to hours Hiding with a rifle In a loft above a bar Another day is wasted Like the man I’m told to kill I feel ironic sadness Cos It no longer gives a thrill But the devils that are living Behind my glib portrayal I am destined for a lifetime Of failure and betrayal The stranger avenger Who lost his sense of danger Life waster defacer I am the ghost imposter

Fires 03:49
Goldilocks has plans for you your fears I guess are Luke warm too And there is a perfect view To see the Earth Sabre toothed geeks are proud of Point out their inventive plans to Travel to Mars on their rocket ships The tinsel on this burning tyre Do we cut the green or reddened wire? They’re hoping we don’t see the fires that burn Play those sorry songs for me And learn to love your own complicity These final days we’re feeling free to hope

She really can shoot the breeze And the world she knows is exactly what she seizes Don’t you break apart again now Cos it doesn’t really suit you You’ve seen the things that took me years The biggest pushes of this latent fear And it creeps behind us when we hide a tear It never fails to knock us down The Dopamine girl is Painting all her her mirrors her beautiful song Can be heard again The Dopamine girl Knowing everything has gone astray Sometimes you can’t seize the day But that’s alright In the dark with Thom Yorke’s voice Hidden from the obvious choices But I gotta agree I would feel the same I’d sever the rigging of this odious game It’s just a phase they promise you The sun will shine when you least expect it But until then don’t worry about it It will never be your fault it's just the way it is

Mr Big Wig 02:51
Hey Mr Big Wig Tell me how it feels to fall as far as you have fallen from the sky You’re now an ordinary guy like me Hey Mr Big Wig Tell me how it feels to know as little as you seem to know right now You’re going to have to tell me how it feels If hindsight was a currency You’d be poorer than people like me Your ego’s now a fallacy That only you believe in Hey Mr Big Wig Tell me how it feels to exercise a power that has wained Yet somehow not feel ashamed of yourself Hey Mr Biggest Wig Tell me when you start to feel that you are insignificant like me When you’re not a big bully anymore If hindsight was a currency You’d be bankrupt that is plain to see You could experience all the misery That you once gleefully dished out Big Wig Two Face Welcome to the coal face

Whilst she shines like those tiny green beetles That you find when you lift up the rocks She will thrive on the warmth of your people And the effortless smiles she unlocks We’re the wallflowers that sit near the hand rails Where we grunt out our idiot views And we love to ride on her coat tails In the shade that’s created by you And the patience she saves up for worry And respect for the darkness we show We can embrace melancholy As the men that only they know If your girl is a natural carer Who knows how to nurture the soul Hold on to her with the firmest of grips Cos without her we’re nothin at all If this girl eclipses our being Don’t grumble at how this all passes Don’t Sit in the shade that we’re seeing Be sure to Wear your sunglasses Let her be She’s your shiny little green beetle She’s the best Of all the really kind people Shelter you She will ward off nearly all the evil Keep her safe She’s your shiny little green beetle She’s the Eve You’re the Adam who will eat the apple She’s the scribe Who is writing up your own fable Keep you strong Keep your feet underneath the table Keep her near She’s your shiny little green beetle

Off and On 02:55
Vaccination Won’t be long Computation Could go wrong Drugstore nation Find the cure Acceleration To the pure You’re right we know It’s time to go The time to choose Not for the slow They scream they shout They get it out The doubt The doubt Turn it off and on again Choose the option Show no doubt Tin foil hat men Wanting out Protein binding Cellular blight Herd immunity See the light

The Others 04:31
It’s said that some believe And many of us don’t That our tiny little footprints Are really not our own If you ask me we have failed To fully understand That our collective sorrow Comes from all our hands And all the crap we chase And The things we try to hide It Doesn’t really matter When we’re eventually found out So Don’t worry about our future That You won’t be here to see You can rest easy my darling citizens If you think it was not ME And somewhere west of Oregon Is the litter of our lives Swirling as a constant Beyond our view And no one ever sees it And no one makes a change We’ll keep on keeping on now It was always about the others I’m making a confession I’m as bad as all the rest This song is my apology For the shit I passed to you Let’s admit we are complicit Let’s admit we fucked things up Let’s work to make it better It was not about the others It was really me and you

I’ve seen people spend lives yearning Setting goals they can’t achieve Making judgements that are fleeting Cos We’re easily deceived Giving lives to being parents And putting by some hard-earned cash Taking shots of every sunset Whilst they grow up in a flash Chorus: So every time you feel it If the darkness plays a part When you hear your sadness knocking When you don’t know when to start Put on your favourite record Let the tune fill up your heart Put on the songs that move you Cos we’re Indie Kids at Heart When your life has hit the railings And your youth begins to fade A second wind will get you sailing From the life you thought you made You can open all the windows hair flying in the slipstream Just as long as you can tune into who you are as a human being CHORUS So give up on the yearning Setting goals you can’t achieve And sit back on your haunches Watch the others be deceived You don’t need to be consuming You should give it all away Go sit upon a cliff top And breathe in all the spray

They’ve flown the nest And we’re Grasping at the branches Gasping at the mess you left These Holes in us That Cannot stand the silence And the fuss you made of going The damage is real Those silent clicks we grant you Our identity revealed Our data and Our lives Used it all against us So that Everything contrived to put us down Take a trip To a hide out in the heavy north Where we can start to flip out Please stay we said The world is spinning wildly And the sky is turning red for you The damage is real Those silent clicks we grant you Our identity revealed Our data and Our lives Used it all against us So that Everything contrived to put us down It is time to interrupt These methods they would use to box us In to corners we would never normally go NO It is time to push right back It is our time to choose more kindness Don’t let their blindness hold back all the love you know NO No NO no NO
